While digging through an old box we found a cd book stacked full of classic demos from local Kansas City DJs, some.. quiet embarrassing I’ll admit, but in the mix there were a few diamonds. Over the next few months we at KCT will be uploading and sharing some of these classic mixes so that the new generation can have a glimpse at what the word on the street used to be. While we are at it we are also sitting down with the artist to catch up and hear what they are up to now and also to here their thoughts on the music that we’ve found that they have no doubt long forgot about.

The first CD that we found was Sarahplease’s Moods for Moderns. Sarah Giboney better known as Sarahplease has been a long time friend of the KCTDC camp. Always one of the first to the dance floor and usually one of the last to leave, she has been a fixture on the KC dance music scene for over a decade. Over the past few years you have been able to catch her doing guest spots around town at venues like The Union, Karma, and other dance music venues.

Sarah Please – Moods for Moderns by KCTDC_Classics

Name:
Sarah Giboney

DJ Alias:
Sarahplease

Years behind the decks:
13

What was the first record you purchased:
Some really bad trance record. I had yet to discover my love of deep house at that point, thankfully it didn’t take me too long to come around.

What type of platform do you prefer to perform on (ie. Decks, CDJs, Serato, Traktor):
My love for vinyl began at the age of 8 when my hippie parents via Santa Clause gave me my first turntable. This love has not been watered down by the availability of new options. I’m very out of touch when it comes to all of the fantastic new technology available. I’m not coming around very quickly (if ever) on this one.

What drew you to the type of dance music that you play:
I play what I want to hear – a good DJ plays what the crowd wants to hear. Wanna book me? Just kidding ;) On a deeper level, I think it all goes back to my 8 year old little girl obsession with Michael Jackson. Although my parents were hippies, my mother somehow knew that I should be into MJ and bought me all of his albums and 45′s.. I’m going to call her and thank her right now.

Favorite record label:
Seasons

Best place to find new music:
Joel McGuire AKA My Media Manager

Favorite live act / DJ to see perform:
I’m still on a high from the recent Frisky! featuring Derrick Carter but thinking back to all of my favorite shows, Derrick has always been at the top of the list. Next in line is Diz and Colette.

Do you produce, if so, where can your original productions be heard:
Nope. I leave that to the folks that aren’t afraid of technology.

Besides music, what else do you collect, if anything:
I’m into retro furniture and home accessories and just about anything orange.

When is the best time to listen to dance music:
When you have a kick ass sound system and all your best buds to keep you movin’.

What do you order at the bar:
Fancy beer or a vodka soda with extra lemon
