Name:
Amanda
DJ Alias:
Amanda, AmJanda, and Jill of Jack n Jill
Years behind the decks:
10 years. I was given my first pair of decks when I still had no clue what was going on.
What was the first record you purchased:
Armand Van Helden- LIttle Black Spiders and a white label of Paul Johnson’s Doo Doo Wap
What type of platform do you prefer to perform on (ie. Decks, CDs, Serato, Traktor):
Started on vinyl and now play CD’s
What drew you to the type of dance music that you play:
Dj Dan’s Funk the System and then hearing DJ’s like Mark Farina, Justin Long, Derrick Carter, and Dj Heather
Favorite record label:
My favorite old record label was Guided Methods and Classic records. I currently don’t buy by record label, I usually shop by artist. I have been digging on Leonardus, Ramon Tapia, Giano, Cajmere, Gramophonedzie, and Derrick Carter.
Best place to find new music:
Beatport, friends, and google searches
Favorite Live Act / DJ to see perform:
Oh man… so many I can’t even list. They are all equally amazing. Kabal days should say enough for anyone who knows. I used to go home drenched in sweat weekly. The normal culprits were Derrick Carter, Justin Long, Brett Johnson, Dj Heather, Diz, ECB, LCG, and of course Pat Nice. Most recently I would have to say Jonn Hawley at 2am.
Do you produce, if so, where can your original productions be heard:
Negatory. Who has time with a full time job, school, and gigs?
Besides music, what else do you collect, if anything:
I collect vinyl pop art like Dunny’s and Jibibuts, anything by Scribe, Mad, or Julie West, and the list continues. I like to collect local art in general.
When is the best time to listen to dance music:
All day. Everyday. Whenever I need a boost I usually put on one of my favorite mixes.
What do you order at the bar:
What I would like to order is a vodka and cranberry, but normally it is a Diet Coke. I hate drinking and driving.
