Throughout the season, the Backyard will be holding a weekly Food Truck Court on Friday and Saturday nights from 7p – Midnight (and later). A rotation of the city’s favorite food trucks will be open for business in the Backyard starting at 7pm each Friday and Saturday. There will also be a an assortment of local DJs, bands and other entertainment for all crowds until 3am. This week, we’re pleased to welcome Indios Carbonsitos, Rock N Moroccan, Crave of Kansas City, Smokin Streetside BBQ (and more!) for our kick off weekend. Frankie Bones, thugs & harmony. The Ravest American Hero. A DJ who has
the total exclusive eyewitness report on DJ culture and how it began
in Europe and then the United States.

At 18 years old, Bones started a resident slot as a DJ in a Long
Island club, and on December 1, 1984, NY state raised the drinking age
to 21. This forced Bones into writing and producing. Omar Santana & Carlos Berrios & Frankie Bones meeting was a blessing. Still teenagers, hungry & determined, they had their names on records and that gave them street credit, being producers/djs/promoters.

When 1988 rolled in, Bones and Lenny Dee were spinning in Long Island,
Staten Island & The Jersey Shore every weekend on both Friday &
Saturday nights. New records were released every week and suddenly
everything is being licensed to U.K. labels. The Rave Scene in London
had become the next big thing. Bones knew his music was becoming more
popular in London then in New York. So a tour was planned, headlining
a 5000 person event called “Energy” on August 26, 1989. But as Bones
walked into his future that morning 25,000 people in unison were about
to witness the strength of street knowledge.

Bones met Paul Oakenfold & Carl Cox that night. They all made history
@ Energy. Bones was now thrust right into the minds of the U.K. youth. The
rest of Europe paying close attention and Bones playing the first
events in France, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Holland. The history left
in the names of the 1990 & 1991 Love Parade’s in Germany. “My House Is
Your House” & “The Future Is Ours”. Tracks produced by Bones making
him an early rising star in Germany.

Bones became popular on both coasts simultaneously. From 1990 on. Rave culture spread quickly towards the center of the country and by 1993 there was a scene in almost every state in the nation. Frankie Bones is the only DJ able to be part of all three original scenes. He claims his love for the music and scene always rotates around the early days of California.

If you were not around in the heyday of Kabal or Spark Bar, you missed a huge part of Kansas City House history. The boys of Deep Connections and later Deepfix Records carved a culture into the Kansas City dance music scene that hasn’t been matched since. A culture of class, professionalism, good parties, and good sound systems. They started out hosting all ages underground events with the climax being Where The Wild Things Are at the expo center, drawing some 2000+ dance music fans from around the region, a party that was covered by local news stations, just as the “rave panic” was first starting to rear its head in the late 90′s early 2000.

After moving away from all age events and into the club world they started hosting a night dubbed Frisky starting out on Thursdays and later moving to a Friday night event. From day one the event booked every major touring house dj of the time period, with appearance from the likes of Mark Farina, Dj Sneak, Derrick Carter, Iz & Diz, Lance DeSardi, Brett Johnson, Dj Heather, Paul Woolford, Justin Long, Honey Dijon, Lawnchair Generals, East Coast Boogiemen and many many many more. The international talent and the fact that Kabal had the only Avalon Sound System in the midwest upped the ante on what a club goer was going to experience, and the strong pours from the bartenders never hurt either. Kabal was the place and Frisky was the vibe.

The FriskyKC team just announced a huge event heading our way Sept. 30th with special guest’s Derrick Carter [CHI/IL] and Matthew Brian [SD/CA] with opening djs Simply Soul Syndicate (Joey C and Chris D). This event also will host a slew of other local legends including: cQuence, NMEZEE, Sigah, and Mark Jones.

This Sunday KCT Residents Mr. Nuro and Todd Howard will be doing a guest spot at this summers hottest Sunday party, Sunday Solace. The boys of Solace have been holding down their patio at Californos in Westport now for two years and this summer it has blossomed into the “must be” place on Sunday afternoons.

The setting is all ages and by mid afternoon the event becomes a who’s who of the local Kansas City Dj community and professional party people, often with kids and family in tow. The relaxed settings in the comfort of Westport is the perfect place for a vibe that can set Sunday off just right gearing up for another Monday back to the grind (and often times with a proper hangover.)

This week we will also be celebrating the birthday of one of the youngest men in the KansasCityTechno.Com tribe, Mr. Brian C will be out in full effect celebrating his 10th birthday in a big way. Make sure to stop by and say hello.

This Thursday the boys that host Topeka’s Resistance have invited KCT resident Mr. Nuro out for a second tour to duty. Jeremy Gaston and Josh LeTrouble have been holding down their Resistance all ages weekly at The Boobie Trap for almost a year and things are only getting better for them. They bring in local and regional talent each week for a constantly evolving night of music, madness and mayhem.

In June of 1999 Vibalicious began as a party but quickly turned into an adventure. For those who have experienced the Boogie, you know you’re in for a wild ride. For those who haven’t prepare yourself for the Ultimate Vibe! This September the Boogie Knights take you way back to a place you have never been before for an event that cannot be recreated!

This year’s return of Vibalicious brings a variety of acts from around the MO/KS area, with the main show being the one and only CHRIS LIEBING [ CLR ] !!!
